The Gary International Black Film Festival 2015
The Gary International Black Film Festival (GIBFF) is a three-day cultural event that brings independent Black film to Gary audiences providing rich, authentic opportunities to celebrate African American heritage culture and the Diaspora.
Our goal is to foster authentic discussion about our culture and history by using films that provide a counterbalance for widely distributed misaligned representation of our heritage and contributions to America and global society. Some films are serious, some are funny and irreverent, but we hope are provocative enough to stay with the audience long after they have left the theater.
The 2015 Opening night: The October 9, 2015 opening night at the, "Gary International Black Film Festival," was a film goers delight. The film, "The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution," was the ultimate film portraying the events of the Black Panther Party. Stanley Nelson Jr., USA, 2015, 1:43:00 Documentary The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution is the first feature length documentary to explore the Black Panther Party, its significance to the broader American culture, its cultural and political awakening for black people, and the painful lessons wrought when a movement derails. The film basically in documentary form, was more explicit that what was actually displayed back in the sixties of Fred Hampton's death. All that I can say is if you get a chance to see this movie in the theater, do so.
Then there was the fact that we, the team had to watch these 38 films that made it through. But the fact that there were three to four times this amount of films that did not make it.
